Halloween
Halloween, which takes place on October thirty-first (the last day of the Celtic calendar), was originally a ethnic holiday intended for admireing the dead. Its modern name comes from its of age(p) name, which dates back to over 2000 years ago, All Hallows eve. All Hallows Eve was shortened into Hallow-een, which was eventually shortened into Halloween. All Hallows Eve is the evening before All Saints Day, which was created by Christians to convert pagans, and is celebrated on November 1st. The Catholic Church honored saints on this day. Even though there are many versions of the origins and older customs of Halloween, whatsoever remain consistent even after all these hundreds of years. opposite cultures view Halloween a bit differently, but traditional Halloween practices hush remain the same. Halloween customs can be traced back to the Druids, which is a Celtic culture in Ireland, Britain and Northern Europe. Its roots impersonate in the feast of Samhain, which was yearly on October 31st to honor the dead. Samhain signifies the summers end, or November. It was a harvest festival with huge, spiritual bonfires, marking the end of the Celtic year and the beginning of a new one. Many of the things involved in this celebration were establish on superstitions.



The Celtics believed the souls of the dead roamed the streets and villages at night. Since not all spirit up were considered friendly, gifts and treats were left out to please and calm the evil pot liquor and guarantee next years crops would be abundant. This is clearly where the trick or treating custom comes from.
Today, it is celebrated in the joined States, Canada, Ireland, and the United Kingdom.
